The performance of any website depends on the page rank got mostly from Google and other search engines. The page rank is mostly counted through the number of back links attached to the site and the more links are attached to the site are considered good. This is because the more links are associated with your website will be counted as vote or a choice for that particular link or website which is considering you as a good one.

The usage of inbound links i.e. those links which come into the site from outside or joining of other links are one way  and considered a factor to increase a website's total Page Rank. The links from where they have been collected from doesn't matter at all to the search engines. Google knows that a webmaster has does not have any charge to manage over other links connecting to his website, and therefore the sites are not fined because of anywhere the links come from are considered good.

RSS feeds twitter, Facebook are also good platforms to get good back links and not to forget the main professional site LinkedIn from which several good links can be expected. Video marketing on You Tube is also a good policy to apply for getting links for your website. It is also true that not every links are counted by Google. There are some links with which a site can be punished by Google. For this very reason, inbound links which come into a site cannot damage the site, but the outbound links which go from a site can be dangerous if they link to fined sites of Google.
