Innovative Applications of WordNet
There are several databases available on the web and WordNet is one of them. WordNet is a huge lexical database, which can make innovative and interesting moves when it comes to entertain the users. WordNet 1.6 stands for the largest publicly available on-line lexical resource, already used in various applications of the human language technology. Systems performing word sense disambiguation, information origin or retrieval, prepositional attachment, interpretation of nominalizations, textual summarization, co position resolution, abductive reasoning conversational implicative, recognition of textual cohesion and coherence, intelligent Internet searches and some of the digital libraries projects use WordNet.
This paper presents an application of Page Rank, a random-walk model originally planned for ranking Web search results, to ranking WordNet synsets in terms of how strongly they possess a given semantic property. The semantic properties we use for exemplifying the approach are positivity and negativity, two properties of central importance in sentiment analysis.
WordNet design and development, discussing its origins, the objectives it at first proposed to reach and the following use to which it has been put, the factor that has determined its structure and success. The importance in this description of the product is on its main applications, given the instrumental nature of WordNet, and on the developments and upgrades of the tool itself, along with its use in natural language processing systems. The purpose of the paper is to identify the most significant recent trends with respect to this product, to provide a full and useful overview of WordNet for researchers working in the field of information retrieval.
